Brazilian government creates plan against oil spills in the pre-salt - 07.27.2010
Three months after the oil spill in the well of
British Petroleum (BP) in the Gulf of Mexico, considered the largest
environmental disaster in U.S. history, Brazil prepares an action program for possible accidents to occur along the pre-salt exploration. The National Petroleum Agency (ANP), IBAMA
(Brazilian
Institute of Environment and Natural Resources) and the Navy began to develop the first national contingency plan to
contain oil spills at sea. The information is from the
newspaper "O Globo".
Petrobras currently produces the contingency
programs for each one of the platforms, but now the government will adopt a
plan on a national level, joining both regulatory and environmental agencies on the prevention of such disasters, according to the General Director of ANP,
Haroldo Lima. Lima also stated that Brazil has one of the most advanced security and
surveillance systems in the world. However, they
certainly should be improved due to a leak from BP. |
